The premise is that if partners and coworkers can SEE and ACT concerning the signs and patterns of abuse in others, that is the first step toward bringing people into treatment safely and anonymously.

To protect yourself, your co-workers and your patients, please familiarize yourself with the procedures for handling potential substance addiction in your group or department. Find out who is the "point person" who will receive reports of suspected or known substance misuse, and the patterns of substance addiction or impairment. Finally, learn not only the Signs of Addiction listed here, but think in terms of PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOR or impairment that point to possible addiction.
